Job Description

A company in Greenville, SC is seeking a Mechanical CAD Drafter for temp to permanent position. We are looking for someone who has worked in the field of automation and/or machine design environment with drafting and design experience using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. This position will be responsible for generating schematics and creation of accurate production drawings. The Ideal candidate will have good organizational skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience in problem solving in a team environment.

  • Prepare clear, complete, and accurate detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches or notes for engineering or manufacturing purposes, according to specified dimensions by Computer Aided Design (CAD) system
  • Uses SolidWorks to provide support to Engineers by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches & diagrams
  • Create accurate drawings that include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacturing
  • Makes simple decisions but refers most questions/problems to Engineers or supervisor
  • Read, learn, and apply the CAD standard document to all drawings
  • Review final drawings, checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure of project
  • Make all adjustments or changes as directed by engineer
  • Model finished designs from engineer's sketches or from other engineering documentation
  • Utilize knowledge of various drafting packages and software to complete drawings
  • Visually compare design of component or other equipment with drawing of parts, matching coordinating points for accuracy of fit
  • Note corrections or questions on drawings in green marker for discussion with engineer responsible for drawing
  • Record all changes made to drawings and resubmit to engineer in charge of project
  • Release final drawing packages to production
  • Update drawings after project completion to reflect the as built design.
  • Understand that job descriptions change over time. You are expected to maintain competence, awareness and compliance with your job

What Is Required

  • An associate's degree or completion of a technical trade school in CAD is preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Prior working experience in the field of automation and/or machine design
  • Drafting and design experience specifically in the field of automation or machine design
  • Experience generating pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
  • Experience generating electrical schematics
  • Knowledgeable of common manufacturing practices, materials, and finishes which will aid in the creation of accurate production drawings
  • SolidWorks Certification
  • Experience using AutoCAD
  • Experience applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to production drawings
  • Experience working in project teams
  • Strong computer, telephone, proofreading, speaking and filing skills
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, common engineering practices and the product development cycle
